Marian Gilgore Obituary

Glenville - Marian Dean Miles Gilgore, 92, died peacefully, Sunday, January 4,, 2026 at Glendale Home surrounded by family.

Marian was born in Denver, Colorado to the late Raymond E. and Margaret Fraser Miles.

She was raised in Scotia, New York and lived there most of her life. She was a 1951 graduate of Scotia High School, attended the University of Vermont and graduated from Mildred Elly. Marian married her high school sweetheart, Charles “Chic” Gilgore on June 15, 1955.

After four years of Chic’s active Navy duty, they returned to Scotia to raise their family.

While staying at home with the kids, Marian volunteered at Lincoln School and with the Junior League, Schenectady Theater for Children and the Heritage Home for Women. She worked for several years for the Eastern Professional Ski Instructors Association, AW Lawrence and retired in 1993 from Senate Insurance. As a family, they vacationed in summer cottages on Cape Cod, camped in the Adirondacks and Myrtle Beach and ventured out in their motor home. Marian & Chic enjoyed traveling together and especially cherished time at their camp “Loon’s Nest” on Lake Clear in the Adirondacks. Marian enjoyed gardening, sewing and knitting. She was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Scotia.

Marian was predeceased by Chic in 2018 and her brother & sister-in-law William & Elaine Miles.

She is survived by sons, Ken Gilgore (Carol) and Dana Gilgore (Darlene Harris); daughter, Martha Gilgore (Lonnie Hojnacki); ten grandchildren: Kelly, Rob, David, Steve, Phil, Megan, Erica, Amy, Alex and Miranda; ten great-grandchildren; dear friend, Norma Hamm; sister-in-law Linda Klopfenstein (Rex); as well as a cousin, niece and nephews.

Marian will be remembered as a gentle soul to those who knew her - soft-spoken, kind and giving. She was also known for her dry sense of humor! She had a deep Christian faith. She was a wonderful wife and mother and beloved “Nana” to her grandchildren, always happy to be involved in family activities.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Glendale Home for their care and compassion for both of our parents over the years. What a great team!

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 17th at 10:30 at the First Reformed Church of Scotia, on Ballston Ave. (There will be no calling hours.)

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Fowler, located in the Adirondacks (mailing address: 1790 Grand Blvd., Schenectady, NY 12309) or a charity of your choice.
